Leader M A Hannan life history

This is my uncle, Late M.A Hannan.
My uncle was born on February 10, 1930 in Khaspur village of Tehatti police station in West Bengal. His father that is, my grandfather Mohammad Mohibbar Sheikh was associated with Congress and later Muslim League politics in British India. After the partition of India, Mohibbar Sheikh came to Amzhupi in Meherpur district in 1948 with his family and settled.

M.A Hannan passed SSC from Dariapur High School, Meherpur in 1949 and HSC from Kushtia College in 1951. He participated in the language movement in 1952 while studying BA at Jagannath College, Dhaka. Later he got admission in at City College in Chittagong. At the same time he accepted a job in Chartered Bank. Later he also worked as a manager of Alfa Insurance Company.

M.A Hannan joined Awami League in Chittagong. In 1964, he was elected secretary of Chittagong District Awami League. He participated in the 1966 six point movement under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the 1968 Agartala Conspiracy Case movement. In 1968 he was elected the organizing secretary of Chittagong district Awami League, acting general secretary in 1970 and later general secretary. During the non-cooperation movement in 1971, he led student workers to protest against the release of weapons by Pakistanis from the ‘Swath’ ship at Chittagong port on March 24. He was one of the organizers of the great liberation war, a close companion of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first reader of the Declaration of Independence sent on behalf of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the Kalurghat Betar Center in Chittagong on March 26, 1971. Later he went to Agartala and was instrumental in establishing the Harina Youth Camp there.

M.A Hannan joined the International Labor Organization Convention (ILO Convention) in 1973. He served as Vice President of Central Committee of Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik League, President of Bangladesh Rail Sramik League and President of Chittagong Jatiya Sramik League.

M.A Hannan was injured in a road accident at Cumilla, Chauddagram on June 11, 1974 and died the next day on June 12th at Feni Hospital.

M.A Hannan is the name of a shining star of Meherpur district and independent Bangladesh. His name will be written in golden letters of history…Insha Allah. I am always proud of my uncle. All of you will pray for my uncle that Allah grant him Jannatul Ferdous… Ameen.
